For some reason, RTM decided to discontinue it's streaming broadcast of channels a while ago. Go to RTM's site and cast a vote to bring steraming back and let your voice be heard! Vote at lower right corner of the main page . .

A lot of Malaysians may not realise this, but the phrase "Tipah tertipu" (I, Tipah was conned {that sounds wierd in English}), Originated from this movie called Ali Setan way back in 1985 . I felt the need to point this out less somebody mistakingly attributes this catchy phrase to the band Ruffedge which was later also made into a movie . And who is this familiar person who was responsible of uttering these famous line "Tipah tertipu bang, tipah tertipu"? It's no other than Queen of Jazz her Sheila Majid ! Dad and I was was talking over breakfast the other day and we got to talking about Online TV and videos on the Net. I was saying how it will eventually take over conventional TV. He said that is all find and dandy but who the hell is going to sit in the computer room and watch TV hours on end. Can 't you hook up the PC to a TV somehow? Like TV3, 8TV , ntv7, TV9 and RTM , Astro also offers their shows online . You have to already be a subscriber the corresponding Astro package for you to view the videos though. And the site seems to only work on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. UPDATE: Check out http://malaysiantvonline.com/ .

For reasons that I can't fully understand, Radio Televisyen Malaysia's (RTM) old/alternative website is still up albeit partialy at: http://www.rtm.gov.my/tv/ Wonder why that is... The current RTM website can be accesed both through http://www.rtm.gov.my and http://www.rtm.net.my  and I want to point out we still don't have RTM streaming live broadcast of RTM 1 and 2 . Which really bums me out.. .

I just noticed that in order to view the shows on the ntv7 site you have to register first. It takes about 3 seconds, but still? What's the point? The other channels who are offering their videos don't bother. I think doing this just creates another barrier between the audience and the content. Most people are going to go, "Fuck this shit, there's a whole Internet out there why bother with this?". Do you want viewers to access your content online or don't you?

What pisses me off about Amazing Race Asia 3 is it's full of models, beauty queens and actors...  What's the point then? Isn't the whole point of reality TV is to watch everyday people (it helps if they're cute) doing non-everyday things. If I wanted to watch an actor act, I'd watch a regular show.. sheesshhh... Well anyhoo.. I'm rooting for the Malaysian team cause, I funny that way, and the team from India cause I like old people... plus rich famous people shouldn't play... Hi, I am the TV Man and I love watching television. My love for reality TV shows stands firm despite my strong and lasting belief that it should have been Rudy and not Richard Hatch to have won that very first Survivor. Although rarely indicated through this blog, I also watch an insane amount of movies, and wish to one day be able to watch Reservoirs Dogs all the way from beginning to end. Sometime in 2006, after going through the various TV guides that were available online, I became frustrated with the search features and information that these sites had. I found the 'one page per channel' thing annoying. I wanted to see all of channels listed together on one page just like in the weekend newspapers. At the time, even Astro's monthly magazine/booklet, listed out shows per channel. As if a person would go, "I really feel like watching The Discovery Channel today, wonder what's on... The truth is no matter how hard you try, no one source is able to reliability give you an accurate listings of the shows on TV.  Not Astro , not TV3 or the other channels websites... None of them is right 100 percent of the time. Often even the station's own website gets their TV show listings wrong. When I first started this site, this became a source of frustration for me. Now, I have come to accept the fact that things just can't be perfect. The TV guides you find on this malaysiantv.blogpot.com , are mostly are derived from Astro's  listings. So mistakes from their site will result in mistakes on the listing here as well. I always believe  it's better to have more than one source of information. With RTM 's streaming service appearing to have been discontinued/suspended, one would suspect that RTM is now following the footsteps of the media prime channels; NTV7, TV9 , TV3 and 8TV  and is now offering selected TV shows on their site in a 'YouTube-like-Catch Up TV' kinda deal. _

The Olympic games are here and we are once again treated to 2 glorious weeks of sweaty men and women running, jumping, dancing, swimming and all around letting it all hang out. Both RTM and Astro are covering the Olympics in Beijing this year. The extent of the coverage however, remains as cryptic to me as those single sleeve tops women wear. Anyway, this means you can watch the Olympics live, online via RTM's Online TV Streaming website. Astro's covering the Olympics event with several dedicated Olympic channels . "KUALA LUMPUR: Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek has confirmed Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) as Malaysia’s official broadcaster of the Beijing Olympics, scheduled for Aug 8 to 24. Seconds after replugging the TV after almost a month of abstinence (Non-voluntary), the set lit up to a bright colorful but unfamiliar show. The show is quirky and falls somewhere between Dexter and Desperate House Wives. I remember thinking Why have I never heard of this show before? Booted up the internet and according to 8tv's site, Ugly Betty was suppose to be on. I was pretty sure that whatever that was airing was definitely not Ugly Betty. I hate that show. Anywho, after a second futile attempt at Astro's site, I finally found the answer at thestars.com.my's TV listings (It's funny how inacurate these TV listings are... my TV Listings are no better, but I'm working on it...). One of the channels that Astro offers is AXN (a three letter acronym I have yet to decipher). They offer this channel bundled in their basic package. I consider it to be one of my favorite Astro channels and I seem to consistently gravitate to it when not watching my guilty pleasure (American Idol) or pretending that watching television can be every bit as nourishing to the mind as reading (Discovery channel - Myth busters). You will find the AXN Asia site very informative. It even offers the AXN channel guide for the entire month for you to download and print at your leisure.

As I was watching American Idol yesterday, it occurred to me that besides TV3 and 8tv , Media Prima also owned the other two terrestrial channels: ntv7 and tv9. So it stands to reason that these two channels would also provide access to their In housely produced TV shows. A quick check on their website confirmed this to be true. NTV7 – ‘Catch up TV’ – Main page, right at the top; tv9 – ‘Episod Penuh’ / ‘Sajian Kami’ – Main page, also right at the top. This discovery, which I later shared with my dad, thrilled him to no end. I have only recently introduced him to the web and the fact that I made it known to him that he can now view the entire season of one of his favorite evening TV shows (Mari Bertarannum) through the PC, cemented my place as his favorite son. TV3 and 8tv have both made their programs available on their website with a service they call 'Catch Up TV'. It is and interesting concept. The format is much like Youtube (better quality) and they cut up each episodes into easy to digest parts. I’ve read some where that the shows aren't going to be posted on the web indefinately and are only going to be offered for fixed length of time. Just enough for you to err.. catch up. Watching TV online is getting more and more common these days. In fact these days, I watch more 'television' on the PC rather than on an actual TV set. RTM makes its channel available via it's 'live streaming link'. (No longer active) Registration only takes a second, and they throw in a bunch of old school RTM radio stations Gen X and Y can hardly relate to... RTM 1 LIVE RTM 2 LIVE Could only get it to work on Internet Explorer. RTM live streaming (No longer Active) UPDATE (18 August 2008): RTM seems to have stopped their streaming TV service , perhaps because of the Olympics... We have to wait and see if they will bring the service up again after UPDATE (27 September 2008): The RTM live streaming page can once again be accesed , sadly, it now longer offers RTM 1 and RTM 2, instead what is on offer are is RTM's LIVE radio stations broadcasts. Sit back and relax as you listen to selections from Klasik Nasional and Traxxfm ( Traxx isn't so bad..
