There is a lot to watch on TV these days. There was a time when Malaysians only had a total of 3 TV stations to watch. Unless you grew up in JB, then you'll have a few more channels to surf. In those days, it was common for people to go to work or school and ask if your friend or colleague caught the show you saw last night. That almost sounds crazy now. Thanks to Astro , there are just too many channels , to keep track of. And then theres the Pirated DVD thing... it used to be you'd get to rent a VHS (that’s a 'Video Cassette Tape' for those of you who were born in the 90s) like a year after the movie come out. But now, we get the latest and the greatest movie and TV shows the world has to offer. The local DVD stalls have countless flicks and all of your favorite TV Shows are sold in nice colorful Boxed Sets. Season 1? Season 2? The whole 9 Seasons of The Sopranos? I frequently watch House on a) my sister's or my ex-girlfriend's Astro b) my PC after having downloaded it of the Internet and c) DVDs. We've already explored why I'm so into this show. But merely liking a character in a TV show doesn't explain watching it like a junkie. There must be more to the show than Laurie's good looks and boyish charm. So lets explore my continuous gravitation towards this piece of culture. Let's start with something that has been annoying me for awhile. The differentials sequences: They say a bunch of stuff I don't understand, House take the piss out of everybody, they rule out Lupus talks about autoimmune, argue if it's head problem or a physical problem, House orders a biopsy / MRI scan / CT Scan (are those the same thing?) and a bunch of other tests and the team disperse to carry on their work. Repeat and rinse till things get better. How come I'm always left thinking, what the hell just happened? Am I the only one ...

Like TV3, 8TV , ntv7, TV9 and RTM , Astro also offers their shows online . You have to already be a subscriber the corresponding Astro package for you to view the videos though. And the site seems to only work on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. UPDATE: Check out http://malaysiantvonline.com/ .

What pisses me off about Amazing Race Asia 3 is it's full of models, beauty queens and actors...  What's the point then? Isn't the whole point of reality TV is to watch everyday people (it helps if they're cute) doing non-everyday things. If I wanted to watch an actor act, I'd watch a regular show.. sheesshhh... Well anyhoo.. I'm rooting for the Malaysian team cause, I funny that way, and the team from India cause I like old people... plus rich famous people shouldn't play... One of the channels that Astro offers is AXN (a three letter acronym I have yet to decipher). They offer this channel bundled in their basic package. I consider it to be one of my favorite Astro channels and I seem to consistently gravitate to it when not watching my guilty pleasure (American Idol) or pretending that watching television can be every bit as nourishing to the mind as reading (Discovery channel - Myth busters). You will find the AXN Asia site very informative. It even offers the AXN channel guide for the entire month for you to download and print at your leisure.

I was momentarily confused to why my Astro wasn't working yesterday. My 4 year old niece had to tell me that Astro has changed their channel numbering system to 3 digits now ... All this to make room for their 100+ channels. More TV! Yeah!!

Astro Ria is going to be running this series called Dark City . It's suppose to have a Twilight Zone kinda feeling with a funky twist at the end of every episode. The 13 episodes are directed by 7 directors I've never heard of (I don't know that many...) that are suppose to be good. I haven't seen the show yet so I'll reserve my comment till after. In any case, it is still a refreshing step away from the usual local drama 'Minggu Ini' and daily serials, which thought are mildly entertaining tends to get stale after awhile. And I didn't even know Astro Ria airs shows that are in English. Oh.. and HAPPY MERDEKA!!!!

You have probably noticed that a few months ago Astro recently added a few more channels to it’s line up. One of them is the ultra cool and dry BBC Entertainment . You’d notice that everyone on this channel speaks with a weird accent; it’s because they’re British. I was a wee bit excited because I had hoped that this will give me a chance to watch the much talked about show Top Gear on the telly. What’s great about the show is you don’t have to be crazy about cars to enjoy it. It’s that entertaining! No such Luck. According to their website they weren’t planning to air Top Gear anytime soon … It thought that was that, and I would have to resort to torrents again, so imagine my surprise and delight to find the show airing on NTV7 instead! I Shouldn't BE Alive Every time I watch this TV show, I pretend I am the protagonist who is thrown into what seems to be a hopeless situation where the outcome can only be a horrible death at sea, dessert or rainforest.
